Ingredients
If you have any ingredients leftover from this slow cooker chicken piccata recipe, check out our Leftover Ingredients Recipe Finder.
- Onions: About one quarter of a small onion is perfect for this recipe, providing subtle sweetness.
- Chicken: 1 (6-ounce) boneless, skinless chicken breast or thigh. Chicken thighs offer richer flavor and juicier texture, while breasts are leaner. Choose based on your preference! If you’ve got extra chicken, use them in Jerk Chicken, Chicken Marsala, or Chicken Parmesan.
- Broth: Low-sodium chicken broth is ideal to control the saltiness while enriching the dish’s flavor. Regular broth works too, but adjust salt accordingly. Use leftover broth in Slow Cooker Chicken Burrito Bowl or Chicken Stew.
- Lemon juice: Feel free to use either freshly squeezed lemon juice for a fresher taste or bottled for convenience.
- Salt and pepper: A pinch of each is all you need to enhance the natural flavors of the dish. Adjust to your taste preference.
- Capers: These briny buds add a tangy, lemony pop! They’re pickled unripened buds of the caper bush. Use extra capers in a Fresh Tomato Salad. If you can’t find capers, substitute chopped green olives for a similar flavor profile.
Recipe Variations
- Vegetable-Loaded: Boost the nutritional value by adding colorful vegetables like bell peppers, zucchini, or spinach.
- Herb-Infused: Elevate the aroma and taste by incorporating fresh herbs like thyme, rosemary, or basil.
- Spicy Chicken Piccata: For those who prefer a bit of heat, add a sprinkle of red pepper flakes or diced jalapeños.
- Creamy Chicken Piccata: Stir in a spoonful of cream or Greek yogurt towards the end of cooking for a richer, creamier sauce.
- Wine Enhanced: A splash of white wine added to the sauce can introduce an extra layer of complexity and richness.
Each variation offers a unique take on the classic recipe, catering to a range of tastes and preferences.

I agree that the sauce is the best part of this dish. A perfect blend of flavors. Mine also cooked in 2 1/2 hours. Wonderful to find something so easy that tastes so good.
I used two chicken thighs which each weighed just under 4 ounces each and allowed 3 hours for cooking and the flavour was great though a little dry so for my slow cooker maybe 2 1/2 hours and for a low carb meal served over zoodles for a very enjoyable dinner, made for What’s On The Menu tag game at FF&F.
I made this and it was awesome! I used 2 bone in breasts. It was moist, flavorful and so easy!
