What Are Cheesy Baked Eggs?

Cheesy baked eggs are a delicious and easy breakfast option that is perfect if you’re cooking for one. It involves baking eggs along with heavy cream and a blend of cheeses in a small ramekin, producing a dish that’s creamy, rich, and satisfying.

Ingredients

If you have any ingredients leftover from this baked eggs with cheese recipe, check out our Leftover Ingredients Recipe Finder.

  • Butter: Used for greasing the ramekin to prevent sticking and to add a touch of rich flavor. For a dairy-free option, you can use olive oil or a non-stick cooking spray.
  • Eggs: The star of the dish, providing protein. You could experiment with egg substitutes if you prefer.
  • Heavy Cream: Adds richness and a creamy texture. For a lighter option, consider using milk or a dairy-free milk alternative. We use heavy cream in many of our single serving and small batch recipes. Consider using any leftover cream in Hashbrown Casserole, Crustless Tomato Quiche, or Bacon, Egg and Cheese Cup.
  • Cheeses: We’ve used cheddar for its meltability and parmesan for a salty, nutty bite. Leftover cheddar and Parmesan cheese can be used in Tuna Casserole or Creamed Spinach. Feel free to experiment with your favorite cheeses.
  • Salt and Pepper: Adds seasoning, but you can adjust according to your dietary needs and taste preference.

Expert Tips

  • Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit before you start cooking. This will ensure that the eggs cook evenly.
  • Use a ramekin: A 10 ounce ramekin is the perfect size for this recipe. It will hold the eggs and cheese without overflowing.
  • Baking: To avoid overcooking and drying out your eggs, start checking them a few minutes before the recommended cooking time ends. They’re done when they’re set and no longer jiggly in the middle. Remember, they will continue to cook for a minute or two after you take them out of the oven due to residual heat.
