Ingredients

chocolate chips, graham crackers and marshmallows on a brown wooden cutting board.

If you have any ingredients leftover from this single serving chocolate dip recipe, check out our Leftover Ingredients Recipe Finder .

  • Chocolate: I use chocolate chips for convenience, but any chocolate works—semi-sweet, dark, or milk. Ghirardelli and Guittard are great options, while Hershey’s squares offer a classic s’mores flavor. Extra chocolate? Use it in Peanut Butter Bars, Chocolate Chip Cookies, a Brookie or a Nanaimo Bar.
  • Marshmallows: For a 10-ounce ramekin, use 7-8 large marshmallows or mini marshmallows for even coverage. Leftovers? Try them in a Rice Krispie Treat or Ambrosia.
  • Graham Crackers: Classic for dipping, but digestive biscuits work too. For variety, try ginger snaps, vanilla wafers, or fresh fruit like strawberries and pineapple. Extra graham crackers? Use them in a No-Bake Cheesecake or a mini Icebox Cake.

Recipe Variations

This baked s’mores dip is easy to customize with different flavors:

  • Peanut Butter Addition Spread a layer of peanut butter over the chocolate before adding marshmallows for a nutty twist.
  • Dark Chocolate: Use dark chocolate chunks or chips instead of chocolate chips for a richer, more intense flavor.
  • Caramel Drizzle: Add a swirl of caramel sauce over the melted chocolate before topping with marshmallows.
  • Cookies & Cream: Sprinkle crushed chocolate sandwich cookies under the marshmallows for extra texture.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make this chocolate dip in the microwave?

Yes, but the marshmallows won’t get that golden toasted top. Microwave in 15-second intervals until the chocolate is melted and marshmallows soften.

Can I double this recipe?

Yes! Double the ingredients and use a 6.5-inch cast iron skillet or a 5×5-inch baking dish. This size works well for 2-3 servings.

Can I make a s’mores dip ahead of time?

It’s best enjoyed fresh, but you can layer the chocolate and marshmallows in the ramekin and bake when ready.

Could this be made in a mini cast-iron skillet? I have one that is 4โ€ in diameter

It should work but I haven’t tested it in a 4 inch diameter cast iron skillet.

  5. Autism Mom says:

Chocolate chips were not melted but marshmallows were really toasted. I had even used mini chocolate chips that usually melt faster.

    1. Joanie Zisk says:

It’s disappointing to know the chocolate did not melt for you. As you can see from the photos and the video, the chocolate should melt. It is worth noting that some of the chocolate chips may retain their shape when heated, but once you dip a graham cracker into them, they should be fully melted. Also, if the ramekin you used was smaller than the recommended 10-ounce ramekin, the layer of chocolate chips would be too thick, making them not all melt.
One final possibility could be the type of chocolate chips used. Not all chocolate chips melt well because they are filled with stabilizers that help them keep their shape. This is why I recommend in the Ingredient Notes section that I use Ghirardelli, Guittard, or Hershey’s brands of chocolate for best results.
