Ingredients

- Strawberries: I prefer using frozen strawberries in this daiquiri as they thicken the drink and keep it very cold. However, you can use fresh strawberries too; just add extra ice to get the right slushy texture. If you’ve got extra strawberries, consider using them in Sheet Pan Pancakes, a Strawberry Milkshake, or a Knickerbocker Glory.
- Rum: White rum is ideal for this recipe due to its light, clean taste that complements the strawberries’ freshness. If you only have dark rum, that’s fine too. Extra rum can be used to make Rum Balls. For a non-alcoholic version, substitute the rum with club soda or a non-alcoholic rum alternative.
- Triple sec: This orange-flavored liqueur, originally from France, adds a citrusy depth to the drink. You might like to consider also using triple sec in a delightful Fall Sangria.
- Lime juice: Fresh-squeezed lime juice is recommended for the best flavor.
- Agave: I use agave to sweeten the daiquiri, finding it a great alternative to the more commonly used simple syrup, as it adds a smooth sweetness.
- Ice: A generous amount of ice is blended with the other ingredients to make the daiquiri refreshingly frosty.
Recipe Variations
- Tropical Daiquiri: Blend a few slices of fresh pineapple with the strawberries for a tropical twist.
- Extra Berry Boost: Add a handful of frozen raspberries or blueberries to the mix for a berry-filled daiquiri.
- Spicy Strawberry Daiquiri: Swap the lime juice for freshly squeezed grapefruit juice and add a jalapeño slice for a spicy kick.
- Non-Alcoholic Strawberry Daiquiri: For a mocktail version, simply leave out the rum and triple sec and add a splash of club soda, lemon-lime soda, or a non-alcoholic rum alternative. This variation keeps all the fruity flavor of the original while being suitable for all ages and occasions.
Freezing Strawberries For Year-Round Daiquiris
Ever have a craving for a daiquiri but discover your strawberries are fresh and not frozen? No problem! Here’s a quick guide to freezing fresh strawberries for future frozen daiquiris (or smoothies, milkshakes, and more!):
Single Freezing Technique
- Wash strawberries thoroughly. For a deeper clean, especially for commercially produced strawberries, try a vinegar wash. Mix four parts water with one part apple cider or white vinegar, and soak the strawberries for 20 minutes, then rinse them well.
- Pat the strawberries dry and hull them by removing the green leafy tops.
- Arrange the berries on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, spaced apart. Freeze for one hour, then transfer to an airtight container or freezer bag for long-term storage.
Cluster Freezing Method
- After hulling and drying the strawberries, simply place them in a freezer bag and store them. This method is quicker but less precise than individual freezing.
Essential Tips for Freezing Strawberries
- Hull strawberries before freezing.
- Use airtight containers or freezer bags to prevent freezer burn.
- Frozen strawberries last up to 12 months in the freezer. Label the container with the date for freshness tracking.
Thawing Options
- Microwave Method: Place in a microwave-safe bowl and use the defrost function, checking every 30 seconds until thawed.
- Cold Water Thawing: Submerge the freezer bag in cold water; they should thaw in about 30 minutes.
- Room Temperature Thawing: Let the strawberries sit on a plate at room temperature, which may take a few hours.
How To Make A Frozen Strawberry Daiquiri
These step-by-step photos and instructions are here to help you visualize how to make one strawberry daiquiri. See the recipe box below for ingredient amounts and full recipe instructions.
- In a blender, combine the strawberries, rum, triple sec, lime juice, agave, and ice. Blend until the mixture reaches a slushy consistency.
- Taste and adjust the daiquiri to your preference. Add extra lime juice if you prefer more tartness, or more agave for added sweetness. Feel free to tweak the recipe to suit your taste.
- Once satisfied with the consistency and flavor, pour the daiquiri into a glass and it’s ready to be enjoyed.
Expert Tips
- Try various rums to change up the flavor. While white rum is my go-to for strawberry daiquiris, experimenting with dark or spiced rum can introduce new tastes.
- Feel free to swap out strawberries for other fruits like blueberries, cherries, or peaches to explore different flavors.
- Always sample your daiquiri as you make it, adjusting the ingredients to perfect the taste according to your preference.
- For a creamier version of the strawberry daiquiri, consider adding a bit of coconut milk or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Frequently Asked Questions
Absolutely! Simply double or triple the ingredient amounts.
Unfortunately, no. Daiquiris are best enjoyed fresh, as the ice will melt and dilute the flavor over time.
Fresh strawberries can be used, but the drink won’t be as slushy.
Add an extra half ounce of rum.
For a non-alcoholic strawberry daiquiri, simply replace the rum with a lemon-lime soda like Sprite or 7-up, and omit the triple sec. If you want to add a different twist, try using apple juice or orange juice instead of rum. This will give your virgin daiquiri an extra layer of fruity flavor!

Great recipe.
How can I make a virgin strawberry daiquiri?
To make a non-alcoholic strawberry daiquiri, use Sprite, 7-up, or another lemon-lime soda instead of the rum, and leave out the triple sec.
Another idea is to add apple juice or orange juice instead of rum. This gives the virgin daiquiri another layer of delicious flavor!
I’d make it nonalcoholic by buying nonalcoholic triple sec(found in the same section as grenadine and sour mix at the grocery) and a rum alternative like Ritual that has the flavor notes of rum but no alcohol.
