  • 1 banana (use a ripe but firm banana for best results)
  • 3 ounces semisweet chocolate chips or chopped chocolate (slightly less than 2/3 cup)
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cup sprinkles, granola, chopped nuts (optional)
  • 2 popsicle sticks, chopsticks, or sturdy plastic straws

  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or wax paper.
  • Cut the banana in half and insert a popsicle stick, sturdy plastic straw or chopstick in each half. Place them on the baking sheet and freeze for 30 minutes.
  • In a microwave safe bowl, heat the chocolate and oil for 20 seconds (depending on microwave strength). Most of the chocolate chips should be melted. If not, heat for a few seconds longer.
  • Stir and let sit for 5 minutes for the remaining chocolate to melt.
  • Roll each banana half in the melted chocolate, then quickly sprinkle with the topping (if using).
  • Place the banana back on the baking sheet and freeze until the chocolate sets, about 20 minutes. Serve or freeze in an airtight container for up to a week.
