Ingredients

  • 1 14.5-ounce canned whole tomatoes
  • 1/2 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 clove garlic , minced
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons honey , or more to taste

Instructions

  • Begin by pouring the can of tomatoes with juices in a blender and pulse to form a coarse purée.
  • Heat the oil in a medium-sized saucepan set to medium-high heat. Cook minced garlic until it begins to brown, 1-2 minutes.
  • Add in the tomato purée and season with the dried basil, salt, and pepper.
  • Stir in the honey.
  • Simmer for about 10-15 minutes, until slightly thickened.
  • Taste and adjust the seasonings and honey as desired.
