Equipment

  • 10-ounce ramekin

Ingredients

  • 1 apple , peeled, cored and diced
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/8 teaspoon cinnamon

FOR THE TOPPING

  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon salted butter

Instructions

  • Heat oven to 350 degrees F (177 degrees C).
  • Place the diced apples in a small ramekin or other oven-safe dish. Stir in the sugar and the cinnamon.

FOR THE TOPPING

  • In a small bowl, whisk together the brown sugar, flour, cinnamon and butter. Cut the butter into a few pieces and toss them into the dry ingredients. Using your fingers or a fork, work the butter into the dry ingredients until heavy crumbs are formed.
  • Spoon the crumb mixture over the apples.
  • Bake for 25 minutes or until apples are soft.

  • If you would like to make a gluten-free apple crisp, use gluten-free flour or almond flour instead.
  • Add chopped walnuts or pecans to the topping for added crunch.
  • Feel free to substitute a pear for the apple and make a delicious pear crisp instead.
